According to a report released by a market research firm and cited by foreign media, global electric vehicle (EV) sales continued to rise year-on-year in April, following a 3% increase in the first quarter and a significant 66% month-on-month surge.
The report noted that global EV sales reached 1.6 million units in April, representing a 6% year-on-year increase. However, compared with March, sales declined by 9% month-on-month.
Similar to the strong year-on-year growth seen in the first quarter, Europe remained a major driver of global EV sales growth in April. EV sales in the European market rose by 27% year-on-year, reaching 400,000 units.
North America continued to weigh on overall global EV sales growth, with sales showing a noticeable decline year-on-year. However, driven by large-scale exports of domestically produced EVs, the Mexican EV market recorded substantial growth, with sales increasing by nearly 50% year-on-year.
Following the sale of 1.6 million EVs in April, cumulative global EV sales for the first four months of this year reached 5.6 million units.
