MID certification is a regulation used by the European Union to supervise and manage measuring
instruments, and the measuring instruments within the scope of the regulation must pass the
corresponding conformity assessment procedures before leaving the factory, in line with
2014/32/EU Directive, and marked with the MID certification mark and CE mark, in order to
sell and use in the EU market.
MID regulations in the EU on April 30, 2004 for official notification, and October 30, 2006
mandatory implementation, on April 20, 2016 abolished the original Directive 2004/22/EC,
the beginning of the implementation of the 2014/32/EU Directive, clarifying the new
methodological standards of the legal system of measuring instruments, conformity assessment
procedures and the implementation period of the Directive.
The MID Power meter is a meter that has passed the MID certification, which means that the
manufacturer's meter products can be sold and used in EU member states. The manufacturer
of the meter is responsible for the production and design of the MID kWh meter and is obliged
to ensure that the MID meter sold on the EU market complies with the MID regulation. For MID
meters placed on the EU market, not only does the meter itself need to comply with the MID
regulations on the product's performance standards, but the manufacturer's capabilities also
need to be verified on site.
The MID certification body needs to conduct on-site audits of the MID meter manufacturer's
R & D design management capabilities, manufacturing capabilities, and product quality management
capabilities every year to ensure Manufacturers continue to have the ability to develop and
manufacture MID meters. Manufacturers can choose the designated certification body, and under
the guidance of the designated certification body, the voluntary choice of certification mode.
The designated organization is obliged to do the testing work of type approval, design approval,
testing procedures and quality management system certification.
